What’s an eVAL and why should you care?

So you’ve been tracking your application using the EMGS mobile app and the Website tracker and you can see that the VAL has been approved! 38%! Yay! Now what? Can I come to Malaysia Now? NO. Wait a day until the VAL is printed…

The VAL is printed by Immigration and submitted to EMGS! 60%! Yay! Another day has passed.

The institution collects the VAL from EMGS! Now they have to courier it to you… which takes at least 4 days depending on when they send it… Yay?

NO.

We’re changing all that. Here’s what’s going to happen. Starting from 15th October, EMGS will implement eVAL where every new VAL application will be issued with an Electronic Visa Approval Letter (What we’re calling an eVAL). Any VAL approved on or after that date will be given in the form of an eVAL.

Ok so what does this mean exactly?

Well, for starters, it means that once the VAL is approved by Immigration (at 38%) you don’t have to wait for the VAL to be printed. Instead, EMGS will automatically generate the eVAL for you and we’ll send you (and your institution) a notification to download it. That’s right… I said download. How?
Simply Track Your Application Status on the website and click on the Download eVAL link. That’s it? YEAP! That’s it!

That means you’ll be able to cut down the time between the VAL approval and you receiving your VAL from days to hours. Once you have received notification of your eVAL (or if your institution emails you the PDF) you can download it and travel to Malaysia. If you need to apply for a Single Entry Visa (SEV) at the Malaysian Embassy, simply print out the eVAL and use that for your visa application!

Now I know what you’re thinking. “What’s the catch?”

Well, during the pilot phase, the eVAL is only available for students who are enrolling into Public Universities (IPTA) and Private Higher Level Institutions (IPTS). All successful applicants will be issued with an eVAL instead of a physical VAL.
