This is the height of it treating the international students like trash because of covid-19 which no one is sure of the time the pandemic will be over.
My colleagues have since started their PhD in other countries last year immediately every lockdown was lifted, but here I am not even sure when I will be travelling to resume my PhD program at USM, Malaysia.
When you knew that international students wouldn’t be allowed to travel to Malaysia late last year or this January, why did you accept our tuition fees, personal bond registration fees etc.? I’m as useless as I know staying in Nigeria, because I can’t make any progress here if I don’t travel to USM due to the nature of my course (PhD Exploration Geophysics). Do you want me to waste a whole year having paid all expected fees (all tuition fees for 3 years including personal bond and registration fees)?
This ongoing restriction for international students from entering into Malaysia has caused more damage than good to everyone of us.
It’s just a pity, most especially for me. If there is a way to retract all fees paid and apply to other schools abroad, I would gladly do. This prolonged lockdown is causing psychological trauma for me each I think of my money and time. Now, I don’t even know when my expired eVal would be renewed since its expiration in August.
I just want the concerned Management to know that we are also important just like the local students. If other countries with the most numbers of Covid-19 cases allow international students to enter into there countries, please, explain to me why Malaysia can’t do same. Since the Covid-19 test will be taken twice and quarantine is also compulsory, what is the need for this unnecessary delay?
Please, this is painful as I write, and I demand urgent response(s). If I can’t enter into Malaysia to go for fieldwork, use the laboratory, library and consult with my supervisor time to time, what kind of PhD programme am I doing or run by the Malaysian Universities? The online doesn’t work for my field of study because I’m not working on secondary data.
I want every sector concerned to look into this. I can’t waste my money and also my time. Let me know the next step of action.
Thank you.
